EVENT INFORMATION:

Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking have warned of an impending Artificial Intelligence (AI) apocalypse. Vladimir Putin has claimed that the nation that leads in AI “will be the ruler of the world.” The Chinese are investing heavily in catching up in AI. Why all the hype? What is new? Why now? This talk will present the background of the new AI known as Deep Learning that goes beyond developing algorithms to perform certain specific tasks, going from its roots in neuroscience to its current spotlight. Techniques, results and trends will be explored..
