The focus of my recent research includes Cuban literature and culture after the collapse of the Soviet Empire. In graduate school I began to think of myself as a member of the generation of Cubans (born between 1960 and 1980) who share the peculiar characteristic of a Soviet education. The authors and intellectuals active in this post-90s generation form part of what I refer to in my research as a “sentimental imagined Soviet-Cuban community” - a community that learned the Russian language in school, watched Russian cartoons and, in many cases, studied in the former Soviet Union.

I am currently developing the manuscript of a book provisionally entitled: Nieve sobre La Habana: el ideal soviético en la cultura cubana de los noventa. I am also preparing exhibitions of photography and other academic projects related to the post-90s Soviet cultural presence in Cuba.
