Mandatory Class Meeting Friday, May 18
3:00-4:30 p.m.
School of Medicine
All MD graduates are expected to attend this meeting which serves as a rehearsal for commencement. Deans, as well as representatives from the Alumni Office and Special Events office, will be present to provide direction and answer questions. A great kick-off to a memorable weekend.
Class Reception Friday, May 18
4:30-5:30 p.m.
Biomedical Research Building, Lobby The dean and faculty of the School of Medicine host a wine and appetizer reception for 2018 graduates receiving their MD and/or PhD. Families are welcome to attend.
Awards Ceremony Saturday, May 19
2:00-3:30 p.m.
Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom School of Medicine honors, awards and prizes will be presented. All graduates and their families are encouraged to attend the ceremony and reception. Award winners will be notified in advance by the Office of Student Affairs.

Commencement Day Schedule

Sunday, May 20, 2018

Time Event Location Details
7:30 a.m. Breakfast, Class Photo, Graduate Line Up Biomedical Research Building (BRB), Lobby and Cafeteria Breakfast provided for graduates, their families and friends. Graduates will robe and line up to process to convocation. A class photo will be taken of all graduates in full academic regalia on the steps of the BRB before processing to convocation (weather permitting).
9:30 a.m. University Convocation Veale Convocation Center Graduates must participate in convocation in order to participate in the diploma ceremony.

This is a ticketed event for guests. The convocation ceremony will be shown on large screens in Ford Auditorium for guests not able to secure convocation tickets. At the conclusion of the convocation ceremony, graduates will remain in procession formation while exiting Veale and will be joined by faculty to process down Adelbert Road to Severance Hall. The procession will be led by our bagpiper and makes for a great photo opportunity for family members watching from Ford Auditorium.
11:00 a.m. Doors Open (Guests) Severance Hall Doors open for guest seating. No tickets are required.
11:30 a.m. School of Medicine Diploma Ceremony Severance Hall Speaker: 
1:00 p.m. Reception School of Medicine All commencement attendees, family and friends are welcome to attend. Procession from Severance Hall moves from diploma ceremony without break to School of Medicine reception.
Before 6:00 p.m Rental Cap and Gown Drop Off University Bookstore

Following commencement rental regalia should be returned to the University Bookstore, open May 20 until 6:00 p.m.

Hooding Information

Hooding will be done by School of Medicine Society Deans or the Lerner College Executive Dean. Hooding Exception requests must be handled through the School of Medicine’s Special Event Office. Please email and include in the subject line: Hooding Request.
