Traveling Abroad

When traveling internationally, the CWRU community is urged to “travel clean.” That may mean leaving in the United States any research data, items, or technology which may be subject to export license laws as well as anything which may be vulnerable to loss, theft, or other privacy-related considerations. Consider the vulnerability of research data on your laptop and other electronic devices before taking them overseas. Then, take only that which has been published or is in the public domain. The University Compliance Office and CWRU Information Security Office have partnered to make clean Chromebooks (laptops containing no hard drive) available for loan to individuals traveling abroad on CWRU business. The Chromebooks are integrated with CWRU's Google Apps services and are available for loan from Kelvin Smith Library on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the Kelvin Smith Library Service Center to check out one of the devices.

Important: See the 3/21/2017 restrictions on the types of electronic devices you can carry-on when you return to the U.S. on flights from specific foreign airports here
