Elfreda "Alfie" Chatman-Walter, MS, is a senior leader within the Office for Inclusion, Diversity & Equal Opportunity (OIDEO), and a senior advisor to the vice president. She serves as a strategic thought leader in managing the university's brand by leading the implementation of superior diversity & inclusion initiatives. She is engaged with the affirmative action plan, supplier diversity program, and the creation and ongoing management of sophisticated, multi-cultural marketing & communication strategies.
Additionally, Chatman serves as a senior professional within the office of corporate relations, providing leadership to develop and achieve the university’s multi-cultural business development strategy. She manages and plans sales & marketing activities, primarily focused on philanthropy, with significant annual revenue responsibility (>$5M). She works to capture new business and maintain existing relationships, both internally and externally. She promotes university technologies, products and services to meet industry needs.
Her projects include development and continuous monitoring of the diversity strategic plan, including goal setting, metric tracking and developing reporting systems; monitors significant supplier diversity program, including stewarding volunteer-led supplier diversity council; tracks university performance related to City of Cleveland Community Benefits Agreement program and Commission on Economic Inclusion survey, and works closely with procurement on vendor engagement and database management. She recently led the overhaul of the supplier diversity database system including coding and certification verification, and developed and lead the university’s marquee diversity training & education program known as “Diversity 360,” including curriculum design and evaluation modeling.
Previously, she was Associate Director, Office of Corporate Relations at Case Western Reserve University. She was responsible for attracting industry investments for technology developed by university faculty and manage a portfolio of over 50 corporate partners. During this time she secured $2M endowed chair for the management school; procured a six-figure investment to launch a pioneering partnership program with historically black colleges and universities; attracted over a million dollars for the Louis Stokes Fellowship Program within the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, a nationally ranked, top ten school of social work, and developed six-figure deal with industry partner for innovative solar technology program.
Prior to this, she was the Director of Development and Communications for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission where she Raised $2M, annually for such large-scale events as the 2007 NCAA Women’s Final Four™, the International Children’s Games, X-Games, Gravity Games and Continental Cup Soccer tournament, and produced copy for multiple publications; led public relations, including media (print, electronic and television), which resulted in over one million international media impressions.
Alfie Chatman-Walker is listed Who's Who In Black Cleveland in 2011, and was the recipient of the Diversity Achievement Award for Staff Leadership at Case Western Reserve University, April 2014. She is a member of many organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kaleidoscope Magazine's 40/40 Club, Public Relations Society of America, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Women's Community Foundation Every Woman Campaign Committee and the African American Heritage and Cultural Celebration Committee.
She attended Cleveland State University and received a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD),in Public Policy. She received her BSAS in Criminal Justice and Community Health Education from Youngstown State University.
