Gia Adeen serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, management and staff regarding extremely sensitive, complex and challenging workplace issues. She is responsible for EEO & Diversity initiatives and programs for the staff population of the University as well as contractors, visitors, alumni, patients, etc. Adeen mediates concerns and investigate complaints regarding allegations of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation. She participates in mediation sessions with respect to external complaints to the University with EEOC &/or OCRC. In addition, she assists staff members with their requests for reasonable accommodation.

Adeen collaborates with Student Affairs and the Faculty Diversity Officer to investigate sexual misconduct (sexual assault and sexual harassment) cases involving students, staff, faculty and others. She served as Co-Chair of the Sexual Misconduct Prevention & Education Committee and a Deputy Title IX Coordinator, and is Sone of four Designated Reporting Representatives serving under the Sexual Misconduct Policy. She coordinates efforts with Human Resources, the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of General Counsel to ensure equity for the University community.

In addition, she responsible for the implementation and delivery of EEO & diversity related development/training opportunities for departments, search committees, students, and staff.  Trainings include Unconscious Bias, Sexual Misconduct Prevention, Fair Hiring for Hiring Managers, Equity & Inclusion in the Global Workplace and other diversity and employment law related sessions. She facilitates weekly new employee orientation session covering the Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity module.

Gia Adeen serves on various university committees including the Diversity Leadership Council, President's Advisory Council on Women, Sexual Misconduct Prevention & Education Committee and the LGBT Committee.

Prior to her appointment in OIDEO she was for almost eight years, Manager, Diversity & Inclusion at  Cuyahoga Community College. There she served as a member of the Human Resources team, responsible for working with faculty, staff and student populations in resolving concerns and investigating complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation and more general employee relation matters.

She is a certified Civil Treatment for Managers, Civil Treatment for Employees & ValuEthics Trainer (2005),and was selected to participate in the inaugural Mandel Leadership Development program  as one of seven emerging leaders at the College identified for the program. In 2010 she the only employee within the division to be featured in the Administration & Finance yearly report as someone who does her job with integrity.

Her previous experience was as a Program Manager at the Fair Housing Resource Center, Inc., Painesville, Ohio, where she managed a fair housing testing program of rental and sale properties to determine if real estate agents and leasing consultants were complying with fair housing laws.

In addition she was a Senior Investigator for 8 out of her 10 years with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission where she investigated complaints of discrimination & harassment in areas of employment, housing, credit, higher education & public accommodation filed by citizens of the State of Ohio.

Gia has presented to several audiences including the Cleveland Federal Government Executive Board Diversity & Inclusion Committee (2015); the State of Ohio, Department of Administrative Services Equal Opportunity Division Academy of Civil Rights (2013), and the Cleveland Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regarding "LGBT in the Workplace" (2013). In addition she was Invited to present to the Ohio Civil Rights Commission investigative staff and administration state wide regarding "LGBT in the Workplace."
