At the University


Kelvin Smith Library holds a growing collection of films on DVD. See the library film holdings. In the library is the Freedman Center, where students can capture video from DVDs and other sources, shoot and edit video, and much more. The library also has information about some research tools for film studies.

The CWRU Film Society regularly screens recent popular cinema and other kinds of films as well.

Case Western Reserve regularly hosts film-related events, which have included an evening of Buster Keaton short films with live piano accompaniment, Baker-Nord Center film series, and a visit from Groundhog Day screenwriter Danny Rubin.


In the Area


Directly across the street from Guilford House, the building that houses the English Department, is the Cleveland Cinematheque, which offers an outstanding year-round program of films.The Cleveland Museum of Art, also in University Circle, presents film series as well.

Area movie theaters, including the Cedar Lee, screen a variety of mainstream and other kinds of films.


Film Festivals


Every spring, films from around the world screen at the Cleveland International Film Festival.

The Ohio Independent Film Festival also is hosted annually.
