Policy Statement

The university is committed to making comprehensive health and welfare coverage available to all eligible employees, as shown below, through a flexible benefits package, called Benelect. The goal of Benelect is to offer employees a choice in how they elect to provide for their personal and family's welfare and financial protection. In addition, this type of program also provides:

  • A competitive plan for recruiting and retaining employees
  • Tax advantages allowable by law
  • Consumer awareness of the cost of health and welfare protection.

Benelect offers comprehensive options on a pre-tax basis, including diverse group health insurance plans, dental insurance, life insurance, salary protection in the event of a disability, and other programs that are competitive and relevant to employees. Each option has an associated cost which employees pay on a pre-tax basis through payroll reduction.

To help ensure that the Benelect Plan satisfies the employee's changing needs, the employee may select new plan options on an annual basis. During the year, the only plan changes allowable will be those related to a change of work status or family situation.
