Brian Barritt (CWR ’05, GRS ’07, CWRU PhD Candidate)
For Brian Barritt, earning a scholarship meant more than financial help. It also set the stage for lifelong friendships with Case Western Reserve classmates.

As a high school senior, Barritt participated in an on-campus competition for science and engineering awards from CWRU. The students he met during the multi-day competition would go on to become some of his closest friends.

“The process and competition that surrounded the Smith-Treuhaft scholarships had perhaps the greatest influence on my decision to attend CWRU and the most lasting impact on my academic experience there,” he said.

Now, as a tech lead with Google, Barritt works to bolster affordable, reliable Internet access. His work empowers people around the world to forge new bonds and open doors to opportunity—much as a CWRU scholarship did for Barritt.
