Opening Ceremony

Tuesday, July 11

Mark the opening of the conference and hear from Freda Levenson, legal director for the ACLU of Ohio. Freda has been involved with litigating several major cases for the ACLU of Ohio and she also is developing strategies toward reform of the criminal justice system, including  policy against solitary confinement of juveniles in adult prisons. A long-time adjunct law professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Freda taught in both the master of laws (LL.M.) and in the juris doctor (J.D.) programs.


Dig in to Cleveland

Tuesday, July 11
6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The International ACAC tradition continues with Case Western Reserve’s Dig in to Cleveland event. Immediately following the opening reception on Tuesday, July 11 on the Case Quad, shuttles will take guests to some of Cleveland’s most well-loved eateries to enjoy a no-host dining experience. Please be sure to bring cash or a credit/debit card to pay for your meal.

Cleveland’s culinary scene, from food trucks to five-star restaurants, has stepped into the national spotlight in a major way. Take this opportunity to check out some of the city’s favorite (and famous) restaurants and the cool vibe in our trendy neighborhoods, like Little Italy, University Circle, East Fourth Street/Downtown Cleveland, the Flats East Bank/Warehouse District and Ohio City.

Transportation:

Those dining in Little Italy and University Circle can walk to their destination. 

Coach buses will be available to take guests to the following areas:

  • East Fourth Street/Downtown Cleveland (Shuttle Route 1)
  • Flats East Bank/Warehouse District (Shuttle Route 2)
  • Ohio City (Shuttle Route 3)

Coaches will depart at 6:30 p.m. from MLK Drive behind Tomlinson Hall. Shuttles will drop off guests at the neighborhood pick-up/drop-off location and will pick them up at the same location at approximately 8:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to return to campus for late-night hospitality activities. Those staying in off-campus hotels may pick up shuttles to their hotel from campus. Guests who wish to remain off campus after 9:30 p.m. are encouraged to use Uber, Lyft or Ace Taxi Service (216.361.4700). 


5K Run/Walk

Wednesday, July 12
7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Come strut your stuff for a good cause in the 4th Annual International ACAC 5K Run/Walk. Whether you are super-fast or stroll at a leisurely pace, all runners and walkers are welcome and will be provided with a t-shirt, water and microchip timing. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers. Last year, more than 300 participants raised over $6,500 for the International ACAC Scholar Fund, and we hope to match or exceed those funds this year. 

Advance registration is now closed. If you would like to register for the 5K please do so in person during check-in. The fee is $30.

Registration will be available until 3 p.m. Tuesday as well as Wednesday morning before the race. We will begin the race promptly at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 12 at DiSanto Field, so please arrive early.

Dodgeball

Don your uniform and start warming up that throwing arm as we celebrate the 11th Annual International ACAC Dodgeball Tournament. Whether it’s your first time, or you’re a returning champion, you won’t want to miss the spectacle. You can sign up online or in-person at any of the dedicated locations on the day of the tournament. Last minute sign-ups will also be available at the football field before the tournament.

Trivia Quiz

Do you have an encyclopedic knowledge of Ancient Greek lyric poetry? Are you proficient in the splitting of atoms? Is your favorite bedtime reading War and Peace? If so, congratulations, but you probably won’t need any of this knowledge in this quiz! However, if you enjoy trivia, if you like meeting new people in convivial surroundings and if you have a mildly competitive streak, this is the place for you! And, of course, there will be magnificent prizes.

Conference Tent

The 2017 International ACAC Conference is home to the 6th Annual Scholar Fund Raffle. Every year our colleagues around the world generously donate items, and the raffle offers our conference attendees the chance to take these prizes home. The proceeds from this dynamic fundraiser will go directly to the International ACAC Scholar Fund, which is used to bring high-impact under-resourced advisors and counselors to professional development activities around the world.

Prizes need to be collected by 3 p.m. Thursday or the items will be redrawn

Each item is an individual raffle, so you can place your tickets on the specific items in which you are interested. Winning raffle tickets will be drawn during lunch Thursday, July 13. Tickets for the raffle will be available in advance, at the site or from raffle volunteers throughout the conference. Raffle tickets are $1 per ticket, $6 for five, $10 for 12, or $25 for 30.


Dine Like a Rockstar

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum

Enjoy dinner and the history of rock and roll in the city that gave the genre its name. Enjoy exclusive private access to all seven floors of exhibit space and the outdoor plaza, as well as mingling, dining and (of course) rocking out. Following dinner will be a late-night concert at the Rock Hall featuring the talents of Cleveland-area rock band 56DAZE to celebrate the end of the conference. From rock classics and 80s dance to 90s alternative and today’s modern rock, 56DAZE has a little something for everyone.

Transportation:

Coach buses will depart at 6:30 p.m. from off-campus hotels and from Wyant Varsity Club to take guests to the Rock Hall. Buses will depart the Rock Hall every 30 minutes from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. and return guests to those locations.
