Accolades

Just as administrators, faculty and students work to celebrate the LGBT community at Case Western Reserve University, media outlets and community organizations have recognized the university for its inclusion and diversity efforts.

HRC Equality Awards

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) honored Case Western Reserve University President Barbara R. Snyder and Deputy Provost Lynn Singer with its Equality Award during its 16th Annual Celebrating the Fine Art of Equality celebration on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Cleveland InterContinental Hotel.

The two university leaders received the award for their support of campus LGBT diversity efforts. The Very Rev. Tracey Lind from Cleveland's Trinity Cathedral was also honored during the event.

Jane Daroff, a member of Case Western Reserve University Counseling Services, 2008 Equality Award recipient, and member of the Board of Governors of the HRC presented the prize to Snyder and Singer.

Campus Climate Index

CWRU makes LGBT Honor Roll, receiving four and a half out of five stars on the LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index.

Academic life, student life, policies and practice, housing and residence life, and counseling and health services are just a few of the criteria measured for the index.

The university was cited for expressly using the words sexual orientation, transgender, transsexual and/or gender identity/expression in its nondiscriminatory statement and Equal Employment Opportunity policy, which are in print materials and posted online. Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students

In 2006, The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students included Case Western Reserve as one of the guide's 100 best campuses for LGBT students. The school earned a 10 out of 20 on the "Gay Point Average" scale.
