CLINICAL ETHICS PROGRAM
AT METROHEALTH

The Center for Biomedical Ethics, founded in 2000 as the Clinical Ethics Program, is a joint program of the Department of Bioethics at CASE and the MetroHealth Medical Center.

About The Program

The mission of The Center for Biomedical Ethics (CBME) is to provide education, service, and research regarding the ethical dimensions of the delivery and practice of health care in support of the MetroHealth System and the broader health care community. For more information, please see the 2006-7 Clinical Ethics Program Annual Report.

About MetroHealth Medical Center

As Cleveland's first hospital and the largest on the city's west side, the 731-bed MetroHealth Medical Center is the flagship unit of the MetroHealth System. The medical center provides a full range of general and tertiary services for the acutely ill, while rehabilitation services are provided through MetroHealth Center for Rehabilitation.

As a principal teaching center of the CASE School of Medicine, MetroHealth maintains a fine tradition of academics and research. All active staff physicians are full-time faculty of the CASE School of Medicine and actively participate in undergraduate and graduate medical education. Intensive training for physicians and medical professionals is offered in more than 25 medical specialties.

In 1995 the 6 story $30 million dollar Charles H. Rammelkamp Center for Education and Research opened on the MetroHealth Medical Center Campus. The facility is home to the Clinical Ethics Program with offices on the 3rd floor. The Clinical Ethics Program at MetroHealth is a cooperative effort of the CASE Department of Bioethics and the MetroHealth System.
