Dr. Kaffashi received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara/Turkey in 1995. After graduating, he worked as an automation engineer.  He then worked as a research and development engineer for The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey while also pursuing his Master of Science degree in systems and control engineering, also from the Middle East Technical University.  He completed his MS in 1999.  He then came to the United States in 2001 and received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in systems and control Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, in 2007.  His PhD research included variability analysis of physiological time series data.  He is currently working at University Hospitals of Cleveland as a neurological systems engineer.

Dr. Kaffashi is fluent in Kurdish, Farsi, Turkish and English.
