IRB Process

The IRB process is very different for each of the institutions affliated with this project. Despite the differences, all institutions require that investigators be certified in human subjects research prior to submitting an application. Each institution has a different set of guidelines for completing an IRB application. Some points about each instituion's guidelines are highlighted below.

Steps for the IRB Process

1. Study is created in IRB system. PI submits study for review.

2. IRB application goes to department review. Study is approved or changes are requested.

3. Study goes to Clinical Research Unit if appropriate. Study is approved or changes are requested.

4. Study goes to IRB staff for initial review. Study is approved or changes are requested.

5. Study is sent to either Exempt Review, Expedited Review, or Full Board Review.
