Show the High Grade Internal Carotid Stenosis

Internal Carotid Artery Stenosis: Angiogram of the Left Common Carotid Artery (CCA). Note the high grade stenosis of the left internal carotid artery (ICA) just distal to the carotid bifurcation. Patients with carotid occlusive disease often present with transient ischemic attacks. One of the most characteristic types of attacks is amaurosis fugax (i.e., transient monocular blindness) which results from reduced blood flow through the ophthalmic artery, the first major branch off the internal carotid artery. Patients with symptomatic high grade carotid stenosis benefit from carotid endarterectomy compared with conventional medical treatment. ECA = External Carotid Artery.
