Pneumocephalus - Case 2

A 64 year-old woman fell and hit her head. On examination, she was confused.

Pneumocephalus: Axial CT scans. Note the extremely dark areas, which are intracranial air. Air can be seen over the frontal convexities, in the anterior horns of the lateral ventricles, and in the third ventricle. The air likely entered the cranium as a result of an underlying skull fracture sustained when the patient fell and hit her head.
