Anterior Cerebral Artery Infarction - Case 3

A 52 year-old man developed right hip and knee weakness. Four days later, he presented to the Emergency Room.

Anterior Cerebral Artery Infarction. (Left) Axial CT scan; (Right) Axial Flair MRI scan. Note the lesion in the left medial frontal lobe. This infarct was caused by a branch occlusion of the left anterior cerebral artery. As the lesion is more than 2-3 days old, it is seen as a hypodensity on CT scan. As the anterior cerebral artery supplies the medial frontal lobe, an infarct in this distribution predominantly results in weakness of the contralateral leg.
