PRactice-based research networks

Research Association of Practices

The Research Association of Practices (RAP) is a network of dedicated clinicians and allied health professionals working to translate research into practice within the primary care office setting

Research Association of Practices (RAP)

RAP is a practice-based research network of 135 community primary practices in Northeast Ohio within a 70 mile radius of Cleveland

Established in 1992, the purpose of RAP is to develop and use novel research methods to understand and improve practice.

RAP has developed novel PBRN methods:

-multimethod techniques

-direct observation

-tailored intervention strategies

RAP is guided by a Board of Directors of 10 practicing clinicians, which is directly involved in apporving study proposals, developing ne projects, and helping plan and design study protocols. It has conducted a series if studies of preventive service delivery that has been continuously funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for the past decade. This line of inquiry began with multimethod observational studies that provide a fundamental understanding of primary care practice and then used that understanfing to progress to clinical trials of interventions to improve practice.

In addition, the RAP network over-represents traditionally underserved and minority patient populations allowing targeted research involving economically disadvantaged and vulnerable patient populations.

Amendment to CA-MRSA and Familial Transmission article in the Summer 2008 RAP Sheet

In the a recent article titled, CA-MRSA and Familial Transmission featured in the Summer 2008 RAP Sheet, the author suggested that Henry Bloom, MD recommends washing sheets, dishes, all silverware, towels, etc. with hot, soapy water when a patient presents with a pathogenic bacteria.  This is incorrect.  Dr. Bloom recommends this only when staph is the bacteria causing infection.

Thank you, Dr. Bloom for your attention to this.
