Addiction Psychiatry
Fellows in Addiction Psychiatry benefit from
supervised clinical experience in hospital and community-based,
inpatient, partial hospital, outpatient and consultative settings.
Fellows participate in a structured academic
curriculum emphasizing knowledge of signs and symptoms of use
and abuse; sequelae and management of addictive disorders utilizing
psychosocial, pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions.
Opportunities are available for research and
academic development, including independent or collaborative
research, teaching and supervision, curriculum development and
other academic projects.

Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
This two-year fellowship program is dedicated to the training of motivated and well-educated child and adolescent psychiatrists who will graduate with a comprehensive understanding of human development, of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents, and of the evidence-based treatment modalities for those psychiatric disorders. The large number of faculty and extensive clinical experiences insure a comprehensive training.

Community Psychiatry
The Community and Public Psychiatry Division
includes the “Public Academic Liaison (PAL) Program,” a county-based
clinical service and teaching program; the state-supported “Mental
Health Executive Leadership Program,” a year-long business and
administration training program for mental health professionals;
and the annual “All-Ohio Institute on Community Psychiatry,”
a multidisciplinary continue education event dedicated to community
mental health services.

Forensic Psychiatry
The Forensic fellowship is designed to train
psychiatrists in law and psychiatry who will devote their careers
to practice, teaching, and research in forensic psychiatry.
Although the program presents a firm theoretical background,
its major strength lies in teaching the pragmatic skills of
performing evaluations, detecting malingering, writing forensic
reports, and giving effective court testimony.
Fellows take courses at CWRU Law School and
participate in a seminar on Landmark Mental Health Law Cases.
Clinical experience in a criminal court psychiatric clinic,
juvenile court psychiatric clinic, mentally disordered offenders
program, and inpatient forensic unit are individually tailored

Geriatric Psychiatry
The Geriatric fellowship provides subspecialty
training in psychiatric problems associated with aging. The
geriatric program offers treatment for older adults with behavioral
and mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety, psychoses
and psychosomatic problems. The neuropsychiatry program emphasizes
the interaction between the brain and the mind, providing comprehensive
assessment and treatment of patients with psychiatric disorders
associated with brain diseases, such as delirium, dementia,
cerebrovascular accidents (strokes) and tumors.
This program emphasizes the biopsychosocial
approach to patient management, with treatment methods including
medications, electroconvulsive therapy, behavioral, milieu,
individual and group therapies. Additional

Post Pediatric Portal Project
This new and innovative 3 year pilot program was announced in 2007 by the Residency Review Committee of the ACGME. It provides training in general and child/adolescent psychiatry for Board Eligible and Board Certified pediatricians who decide to retrain in psychiatry. The Portal Project provides a 36 month training experience that meets requirements for Board Certification in both general psychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry.

Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship
This one-year, PGY-5 fellowship provides comprehensive training in psychosomatic medicine through supervised clinical experience on the inpatient consultation service, in the emergency department , and in a variety of outpatient medical/surgical liaison clinics. As the primary affiliate of Case School of Medicine, University Hospitals provides a rich academic and educational environment.

Research: Bipolar Disorder Research Training Across the Life
Span
The NIMH awarded its first Intervention and
Services Research Center dedicated to bipolar disorder across
the life span to the Case School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.
The research center conducts projects that bridge science and
service and improve clinical outcomes in underserved populations.
These include persons of all ages with particular emphasis on
children and adolescents, patients receiving care within the
community mental health system, those who are abusing alcohol
and/or drugs and youths who have been involved in the juvenile
