Multicultural Affairs

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) encourages, supports and facilitates the success of all Case Western Reserve University students by providing opportunities for diverse interaction and cultural education that occurs outside of the classroom environment.

School of Medicine Multicultural Affairs - The OMP sponsors a number of special activities throughout the year, including a monthly research luncheon, special dinners, and an annual Accepted Applicants Weekend where accepted applicants are invited to return to campus for a closer look at the school, their future classmates, and some of Cleveland's cultural offerings.

University Multicultural Affairs - Encourages, supports and facilitates the success of all CWRU students by providing opportunities for diverse interaction and cultural education that occurs outside the classroom environment.

LGBT Center - The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center exemplifies Case Western Reserve University’s commitment to serving its diverse student, staff and faculty populations. The space provides an inviting home to members of the LGBT and allied community interested in questioning, investigating, and celebrating sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

AMSA Gender & Sexuality - Our CWRU SOM LGBT student group that focuses on LGBT topics in the curriculum, student affairs (recruitment, retention, and support),  and local advocacy work with other CWRU LGBT groups. We also serve on CSR's Diversity Affairs Committee to work with other student groups on enhancing curriculum and events. Annually, we coordinate the LGBT Health Foundations of Clinical Medicine session, Safe Zone Training, Second Look LGBT Mixer in April, and the New LGBT Student Welcome Party.

People of Every Orientation Protecting Liberty & Equality (PEOPLE) in Medicine - Our faculty, staff, and student network and list serve where information on local, regional, and national LGBT health related events and topics are disseminated. These include local CWRU LGBT events, national news and conference information from the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA), and international advocacy work from the Global Forum on MSM and HIV (MSMGF). Our network includes physicians, faculty, and students at CWRU SOM, affiliated hospitals (UHCMC, CCF, MHMC, and the VA), as well as CWRU-wide advocates (LGBT Center, OMA, IDEO).

Student National Medical Association/Latino Medical Student AssociationThe Student National Medical Association is the nation's oldest and largest student organization. Combined with the Latino Medical Student Association, Case Western Reserve University SNMA/LMSA chapter focuses on unifying all medical students of color, the needs and concerns of medical students of color, providing a voice for underrepresented medical students, and promoting volunteerism and providing leadership opportunities for minority applicants. In addition to yearly programming addressing the needs of the community and issues related to minority health, we have longitudinal outreach programs in local schools and community centers to promote education, recruitment, and retention of students of color at all levels. Lastly, we also work with school administration to help provide academic support to current SNMA members by providing resources and organized academic sessions.
