Overview

In 2005, the federal government enacted a law that requires all schools which receive federal funds to hold an educational program on the United States Constitution every year on Constitution Day, the anniversary of our country's founding document on September 17.

The Constitution of the United States is the highest law and provides the framework for government. September 17 is designated as both Constitution Day and Citizenship Day to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. Throughout the country, educational institutions offer training or events during the week of September 17th which delve into the Constitution and our government. The Office of Research Administration is offering resources for learning and celebrating Constitution Day.
