SOURCE has Four Funded Summer Undergraduate Research Programs!
Only Case Western Reserve University students may apply to the SOURCE funded programs.
Eligible faculty mentors include our affiliates at the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, the VA Hospital, University Circle museums and other affiliated institutions.
Students must identify a faculty project mentor prior to completing any of the four SOURCE Summer programs. The SOURCE office is available for assistance in identifying a faculty mentor and project.
PSURG (Provost Summer Undergraduate Research Grant)
CWRU undergraduates conducting research in the biological sciences, chemistry and social sciences (especially psychological sciences, sociology and anthropology) may apply for PSURG funding. PSURG, like formal summer programs across the country, has a designated 10 week period when students are required to be on campus and engaged in their projects. Part-time projects are NOT considered fo PSURG funding. For summer 2017, the PSURG program was May 30, 2017 until August 4, 2017. PSURG awardess are expected to attend the 10-week Wednesday Lunch & Learn Seminar Series. Online Application Deadline: February 15 at 11:59 PM.
STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
CWRU undergraduates conducting research related to STEM are eligible to apply for SOURCE-STEM funding. Students participate in research for up to 10 weeks (maximum funding for 10 week experience: $3500). This program allows for reasonable and limited flexibility in the start and stop time of the project. That is, students who want to take off 1-2 weeks in June or July, may adjust their start and/or end time accordingly. Students may propose part-time projects. Although the length of the program is flexible, awardees are expected to attend 7 lunch seminars (offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays). Online application deadline is February 15; 11:59 PM.
AHSS (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences)
CWRU undergraduates conducting research or participating in creative endeavors in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) are eligible to apply for SOURCE-AHSS summer funding. The maximum funding for a 10 week experience is $3500. SOURCE-AHSS allows for flexibility in the start and stop time of the project. Students can propose part-time projects as well. Although the length of the program is flexible, awardees who are in the Cleveland area are expected to attend 7 lunch seminars (offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays). The online application deadline always is the Friday before spring break at 11:59 PM.
SURES (Summer Undergraduate Research in Energy and Sustainability)
CWRU undergraduates from all majors are eligible to apply! SOURCE SURES is a formal 10-week summer program, that is, it has a designated start and end date; participants are expected to be present on-campus during the entire 10-week period. Part-time projects are considered though again, all participants must be present during the entire 10-week program. For summer 2017, SURES ran from May 30, 2017 until August 4, 2017. SURES awardees are expected to attend the 10-week Thursday SURES Lunch & Learn Seminar Series. The online application deadline always is the Friday before spring break at 11:59 PM.
The SOURCE Travel Fund provides financial support to students who are traveling to regional, national or international undergraduate and professional conferences and performing arts opportunities to present their undergraduate research or creative project. These awards cover transportation of any type (air, rail, road), conference registration, lodging and meals, poster printing and other research-related expenses.
