An incredible bike to work party is planned at Corner Alley Uptown, 11409 Euclid Ave. from 7:00am to 9:30am with free coffee, food and giveaways including swag from CWRU’s Office for Sustainability.

Ride RTA for free on May 15 with your bike. If you bite off more than you can pedal, or just live further out, part of your commute can be on the bus or rapid. Your bike can be stowed on bike racks on the front RTA’s buses. Be sure to know the drill and prep for putting your bike on a bus or the rapid.

Showers are available after your bike commute any day at Veale or the Wyant Field House. On Bike to Work Day, the One to One Fitness Center is opening early to let those with a Case Western Reserve ID shower.

CWRU bikers, be sure to check in at the Corner Alley in the morning to be entered in a raffle to win a $100 bike shop gift card from the Office for Sustainability.

Live too far away or just want to burn some extra calories, bike inside on May 15? Two spinning classes will be held at Veale at noon and 1:00pm taught by CWRU’s new Wellness Coordinator, Mary Ann Dobbins, register here.

Also on May 15:

  • Mitchell’s Ice Cream at 11444 Uptown Ave. is offering $1.00 ice cream scoops to cyclists.
  • Happy Dog is giving out free hot dogs to those wearing bike helmets at both the nearby old Euclid Tavern at 11625 Euclid Ave. and downtown at 5801 Detroit Ave. from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
  • The Barking Spider at 11310 Juniper Rd. is offering discounted pitchers to those arriving on bikes until 7:00pm.
  • Coming to campus from the West side, another big morning party will be held downtown at the Bike Rack at 2148 East 4th St.

If National Bike to Work day makes you realize that you could do this more often, check out the National Bike Challenge. Register and log the miles you bike anytime, and you could win some prizes and awards. Help Case Western Reserve University (registered as a workplace and a school) win team awards and help Cleveland win the Rust Cup against Pittsburgh in the Rust Belt Battle of the Bikes!

The Office for Sustainability sponsored the production of a Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights and University Heights bicycle map which contains recommended commute routes to the Circle. If you’d like a copy just stop by our office in PBL’s Fowler Center for BAWB, Suite 110 during normal business hours. Thanks for the Heights Bicycle Coalition and Bike Shaker groups for producing a great map!
