Climate Action Plan

A Plan for a Carbon-Neutral Campus

On May 15, 2011 Case Western Reserve University submitted its Climate Action Plan as part of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment, a national initiative of higher education leaders working together to impact climate change. President Barbara R. Snyder signed the commitment in 2008, in which she pledged to develop a Climate Action Plan to reduce the university's carbon footprint to net zero within 40 years.

"To say this goal is ambitious represents the height of understatement," Snyder wrote in the opening letter of the Climate Action Plan. "But this institution will not embrace anything less."  The Climate Action Plan is the guiding hand that drives sustainabilty at CWRU.

View the plan and progress online at the Second Nature website (formerly known as ACUPCC) or download the CWRU CAP (PDF) document for yourself.

The university's sustainability initiatives need campuswide involvement and input to succeed. The Climate Action Plan is a living document and will evolve as ideas and technology change. Offer your ideas or email sustainability@case.edu.
