Dr. Dorr G. Dearborn is the Mary Ann Swetland Professor Emeritus and former Director of the Swetland Center for Environmental Health. He is also Professor of Pediatrics (ret.) at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Dr. Dearborn continues with an active research program and with community and national activities. He is an Executive Board member for the Healthy Homes Advisory Council of Greater Cleveland; chairs a Task Force at Invest in Children regarding the education of lead-poisoned children; and is on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Center for Healthy Homes. In spring of 2013, he testified for the American Thoracic Society at the House Appropriations Subcommittee regarding EPA’s budget. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). In 2011, his alma mater, Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, honored him with a Distinguished Alumni Citation. Recently he was invited to speak at an international conference sponsored by Beijing Children’s Hospital on the health effects on children of outdoor and indoor air pollution. Dr. Dearborn’s current research focus is on indoor, residential air quality in the homes of elderly patients with Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD). This project is funded by HUD and carried out with patients from the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center.
