Changing An Incomplete Grade
If you received grades of I (incomplete) for any courses from the fall semester, you are expected to make the work up as quickly as possible. The amount of time allowed by a professor for making up an incomplete should be consistent with the length of the your absence(s) in the fall semester. The latest deadline by which work must be completed and grades reported is Friday, March 30. Petitions for extensions may be considered by the Deans Committee in the Office of Undergraduate Studies only in cases where there are valid extenuating circumstances and a petition with appropriate supporting documentation (including a letter from the professor) has been submitted prior to March 30. Incompletes not completed by the deadline and for which no extension has been approved, will be converted to F grades.
If you have completed your first seminar and both of your university seminars, you should submit your writing portfolio by the end of January. Visit the SAGES portfolio web site for details on how and when you must submit your portfolio.
Graduating in May 2012? Have you completed Your Grad App?
If you are planning on graduating in May, 2012, there are two things you must look at and complete. (1) the application for graduation and (2) verifying your AA report is showing up as "all satisfied".
Applying for Graduation should take no more than five minutes, however, it is an important process as it allows you to state how you want your name to appear on your diploma and to confirm the degree(s) you will be earning. You will see the Apply for Graduation" option in the academic drop down box in SIS.Please note that even if your AA report is not "all satisfied" you still can and should apply for graduation. Once your application is in, we can still work on making sure all requirements are met!
Deadline for applying for graduation is February 1.
Verifying your AA report is an important step. After you register for your spring classes, please double check your AA report to make sure that everything says "all satisfied". Reasons your AR report may not indicate everything is all satisfied include:
- Missing writing portfolio- If you have not yet started this process, information on what you need to do to hand in your portfolio can be found here.
- You have a class exception and you are currently in that class. The exception will not appear is SIS until you have a final grade in the class.
- You need to submit an AR correction form.
- You must drop a major or minor
- There is AP, proficiency or transfer credit that is not posted
- If you are repeating a course in your final semester, please make sure you have enough hours to graduate. Until the final grade is posted in the repeated class, credit hours from both class attempts are calculated into your overall hours. It is not until you have a final grade in the second class will the credits from the first attempt will be removed. Make sure you will have enough hours once those repeated hours are removed! If you have any questions, please see someone in the UGS Office before the end of the add/drop period.
If your plans have changed and you are no longer planning on graduating in May, please contact the UGS office so your SIS record can be updated to ensure that you can register for the summer and/or fall semester.
Be Prepared: Exam Schedule for Classes with and SI
Plan ahead. If you have not already checked out the dates and times of exams that have an SI.
During the week of February 6, first-year students and seniors will receive an invitation to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement. The survey is being given to undergraduates at schools across the country, and is designed to query students directly about their educational and interpersonal experiences. Results will help in evaluation of services and programs. The e-mail will come from Dean Jeff Wolcowitz with the subject line, “Case Wants Your Feedback.” Questions about the survey can be directed to the Office of Institutional Research at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Come grab some dinner and then learn about the diverse study abroad options that CWRU offers! The Office of Education Abroad will be hosting a Study Abroad Fair from on Wednesday, February 8th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Leutner Commons dining hall. Fall, Academic Year, and Summer programs will be highlighted, but information will be available on all programs offered by CWRU. It is a golden opportunity for students and alumni to find resources for a practicum, internship, co-op, or full-time job. Be sure to bring multiple copies of your resume for employers and dress professionally.

Scholarships available for Second Year, Upperclass Students, and Graduating Women in the College of Arts and Sciences
There are various scholarships and research grants for which second year, upperclass students, and graduating women in the College of Arts and Sciences can apply including
Eva Pancoast Scholarship
In June, 1985, the Board of Trustees of Case Western Reserve University approved the establishment of the Eva L. Pancoast Memorial Fund by which women graduates of The College of Arts and Sciences and/or women students in The School of Graduate Studies at the University might be assisted in extending their education by foreign study or foreign travel, or both, at any time during the twelve months following their graduation, or, in the case of graduate students, in the twelve months following the current academic year.
The amounts of the fellowships vary, but generally range from $1,000-$3,500. Those who receive awards will be required to submit a brief report of the project after its completion with reasonable documentary evidence of major expenditures.
Applications must be submitted by March 9, 2012 to the Pancoast Fellowships Selection Committee, c/o Lynmarie Hamel, Office of Undergraduate Studies, Sears 357. All applicants will be informed of decisions as soon as possible, and public recognition will be given at the Honors Assembly for graduating seniors at the end of the semester

Peter Witt Scholarship
Are you involved in the community? Do you perform community service work in Cleveland or the greater Cleveland area? Are you interested in city planning or social work? The Peter Witt Scholarship recognizes students in the College of Arts and Science who are active members of their community. The scholarship can provide up to $5000 or more to deserving students to use towards tuition in their third year.

New Student and Parent Programs is always on the lookout for energetic, enthusiastic students who want to share the CWRU experience with new students and parents. Below is a list of available staff positions. Applications are now available for all positions!
- Orientation leaders serve as representatives of the Case Western Reserve University Orientation program. Leaders work with new students in small groups and guide them through their transition at Case. They work in teams to assist with the facilitation of all Summer Orientation and Welcome Days activities.
