Adding Files or Folders

File and Folder Management

With Box at CWRU, you have the ability to create folders.

Some guidance:

  • When creating and sharing personal files that will not be needed by those at CWRU for operations, create a folder for your personal use and set permissions however you would like.
  • When creating and sharing files that will be needed for current or future operations (such as a folder for a group to share work information or to house project information), create a folder and set permissions so that the data will be available after your Box account is decommissioned. This should be accomplished by setting multiple co-owners. Those co-owners should actively manage access. If all co-owners of a folder leave the university, files will be deleted. So, keep co-owners updated.
  • When creating and sharing files that contain restricted information, request a folder by contacting the Service Desk at 216.368.HELP. You will need to identify two co-owners for that folder and a folder name. Do not create your own folders for restricted data. Note: Restricted data in Box should only be accessed through the web interface. Examples of Restricted Data

Using drag and drop

  1. Visit cwru.box.com from your web browser and navigate to the Box at CWRU folder where you want to upload sub-folders or files.
  2. Drag a single file, multiple files, or an entire folder from your computer to the desired folder.
  3. Release the file(s) or folder. Your files will be uploaded and appear in the folder where you dropped them.

Using the file browser

  1. Visit cwru.box.com from your web browser and navigate to the Box at CWRU folder where you want to upload sub-folders or files.

Note: You must navigate to a folder in Box at CWRU, such as your personal folder, before uploading content. You cannot upload files or folders at the root level (the screen you see upon logging in).

  1. Click Upload.
  2. Click Upload Files or Upload Folders.

4. Select the file(s) or folder you'd like to upload.

Note: You can select multiple files for upload by holding the Command key on Mac or Control key on Windows  while selecting files. You can only select one folder at a time for upload.

5. Click Open or Upload.

Note: If you're having trouble using the Folder Uploader from the Safari browser, see I Can't Upload Folders On Box While Using Safari On My Mac. What Do I Do?
