Introducing Cisco WebEx: A new option for video and audio collaboration at Case Western Reserve
From conference calls to video chats, seamless collaboration and communications are critical to the Case Western Reserve University mission. To that end, Cisco WebEx, a best-in-class voice and video collaboration service, is now available to members of the campus community.
Adobe Connect and Google Hangouts are two of the robust video conferencing and collaboration tools currently available at Case Western Reserve; what is different about WebEx?
WebEx is a voice and video collaboration service offered by Cisco, the company with which the university partners for its telephone and voicemail systems. This means, event organizers can allow invitees to participate in WebEx meetings by calling a telephone number or by visiting an online meeting room.
Case Western Reserve's agreement with Cisco allows for faculty and staff members to host unlimited video and conference calls using WebEx from their computer. Users also have the option to employ a conference telephone line, as needed.
Faculty and staff members may use WebEx to:
- Host meetings with up to 1000 internal and external attendees, including students
- Set up a personal online meeting room
- Set up a personal audio conference line
- Participate in meetings with a computer microphone and speakers, or use a phone to call-in
The full version of WebEx is available to faculty and staff members of Case Western Reserve. Log in to cwru.webex.com to access the Meeting Center homepage. Then, choose to host a meeting in a personal room, to schedule a future meeting with others, or to attend a meeting.
Contractors and other Case Western Reserve affiliates who need a WebEx account to conduct university business may request one at https://its-services.case.edu/webex/.
A separate version of WebEx is available to students looking to host their own meeting. Undergraduate and graduate students can visit cwru-students.webex.com to access their WebEx Meeting Center portal. It supports up to eight meeting attendees, who must participate using a computer microphone and speakers. Participants of a meeting organized with the student version of WebEx Meeting Center cannot call in.
The Division of University Technology, [U]Tech will host open house training sessions to demonstrate WebEx features to the campus community this summer. Once scheduled, training sessions will be advertised in the daily.
A quick start guide and other helpful training resources for using WebEx Meeting Center are available at case.edu/utech/unified-communications/webex.
Watch your email, the daily, campus signage and social media to discover the full range of possibilities with WebEx.
