Echo360

Echo360 creates an integrated online learning environment for video content, and is composed of several components:

  • Lecture Capture
  • Library
  • Engagement Features
  • Universal Capture

As a lecture capture system, CWRU uses Echo360 to provide automated and semi-automated course recording, as well as the capability for ad hoc classroom recordings. Lecture recordings are supported through classroom appliances– dedicated, all-in-one devices that record audio, video, and display sources (such as the document camera). Depending on the classroom and equipment, a videographer may be required to create classroom captures.

The Library feature in Echo360 provides a storage solution for video content, whether from a lecture capture or an other sources. All Echo360 recordings are editable and can be distributed to students via Canvas. Echo360 allows instructors to seamlessly access and edit their course videos, view valuable metrics on how often a video has been watched, and learn where in the video students are spending the majority of their time.

Students also benefit from an improved experience when Echo360 is used in a class. Students can access course recordings through their class site on Canvas and have the option of viewing the videos on mobile devices. Students may also create and contribute to discussions in videos, choose between watching the video or listening to its audio only, take notes, and bookmark sections they wish to return to later.

Universal Capture is a software application to create recordings using a laptop or desktop computer. It captures a user's screen, camera, and microphone to create basic screen recordings. These recordings can be sent to the Echo360 library for distribution to students via Canvas.
