Service Description

Google Drive, a Google Apps for Education product, allows users to store, create and collaborate on documents in the cloud. Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) maintains contractual agreements with Google that protect the privacy and integrity of information stored using this service.

  • Google "Files" (Docs, Sheets Slides, Forms, Drawings) are hosted online and promote efficient collaboration.
  • Users can be notified by email when a document has been shared with them.
  • Permissions can be set to determine who has access to files and how much access they have.
  • Multiple users can edit and update files simultaneously right in their browser without the need to track attachments.
  • Multi-user edits are visible by collaborators in real time.
  • Version history allows users to see what changes have been made to file and by whom.
  • All CWRU users have unlimited storage available to them at no cost.

Technical Details

CWRU maintains contractual agreements with Google that protect the privacy and integrity of information stored using this service. Users are prohibited from using Google Drove for storing, transmitting or processing of Restricted Information. Examples include data pertaining to: SSN's, payment card information, passwords, intellectual property, audits, tenure selection, etc.

Base level virtual machine comes equipped with 1 processor (vCPU), 2Gb of ram, 30Gb system drive and a 30Gb data drive running with high availability.

Google Drive is used by staff, faculty and students across the CWRU campus.
