To the Members of Our Campaign Committee:

I am delighted to announce that our alumni and friends allowed Case Western Reserve to crush last year’s 24-hour total for our annual Day of Giving. We drew donations from 869 individuals, a figure 9 percent higher than in 2013. And we raised $264,203 – 35 percent and $68,458 higher than in our inaugural outing 12 months ago.

Donations came from six different countries and 35 states, and ranged in size from $1 to $15,000.

Just as exciting as these totals are the sentiments that swept social media Wednesday. Consider a few of the Facebook and Twitter posts that appeared yesterday:

And, keeping it in the family, one mother posted a photo that included herself, three children and a son-in-law, all CWRU College of Arts & Sciences graduates celebrating All[in]!!

True, it turned out that increasing our goal by more than 50 percent – to 1,234 – proved too huge a leap in one year. Even so, I would much rather have an annual fund team that embraces audacious challenges instead of avoiding them. Now that we have two years’ worth of data in hand, the group can crunch the numbers in detail and develop an even better effort for 2015.

For now, I want to thank everyone who participated in the Day of Giving, and encourage you to continue to spread the word about the extraordinary achievements that take place every day at Case Western Reserve.
