Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) are pleased to announce a joint recruitment effort to fill the Champney Family Professorship in Art and Art Education at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. This is a tenured position.
Neighbors located in University Circle, a square-mile park comprised of world-class cultural, educational, and medical institutions, CWRU and CIA are seeking a dynamic visual artist of national/international reputation and a leader in art education who has a strong commitment to social justice and/or community arts practices. The successful hire will direct the Art Studio program and the BS and MA programs in Art Education at CWRU, and teach at both institutions. You will be able to make a substantial contribution to the studio programs at both institutions and build new connections between them. We envision this as a unique opportunity to demonstrate leadership in the visual arts and help shape the future of the field. Applicants will ideally hold a terminal degree and will preferably have a minimum of three years of experience teaching art education. Applicants with substantial experience in their fields with related degrees may be considered. Applicants will be judged according to the following criteria:
1) A strong commitment to working with students at the college/university level;
2) A distinguished record of creativity as an artist;
3) An interest in global, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural art forms, and particularly in social justice or community engagement based artistic practices, is central to this position;
4) Interest in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues.
5) The ability to direct the Art and Art Education component of the Department of Art History and Art at CWRU, which includes undergraduate studio and both undergraduate and graduate courses in Art Education;
6) The ability to teach advanced studio courses including contemporary critical, theoretical, and technical approaches to art for students in a four-year undergraduate program at CIA leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
7) A professional commitment to fostering collegial learning environments and creative collaborations between and within the CWRU and CIA communities and with other area institutions;
8) Candidates for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor will demonstrate broad professional recognition; candidates for appointment at the rank of Professor will require a significant artistic professional presence on the national or international level. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
