Case Western Reserve University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a non-tenure track faculty position: Instructor and Assistant Director of the Roger E. Susi First-Year Engineering Experience. This position will likely be filled at the rank of Instructor, although a higher rank may be considered, depending on the applicant’s experience and qualifications. The full-time, 12-month academic position will involve both teaching and administrative duties within the Division of Engineering Leadership and Professional Practice in the Case School of Engineering of Case Western Reserve University. The Case School of Engineering values interdisciplinary thinking, creative collaboration and entrepreneurial ideas. It also believes strongly in the vital importance of diversity within the professorial ranks, both in terms of women and underrepresented minorities.
Responsibilities and Duties: The primary teaching responsibilities will be instructing courses in the new, interdisciplinary First-Year Engineering Experience, which is a required, hands-on program for incoming engineering students. This program is meant to foster hands-on learning and small group creative problem solving. Courses use tools from a variety of engineering disciplines, with MATLAB programming as the common data analysis and collection tool. Administrative duties will include managing program activities, developing new course projects, coordinating with on and off-campus partners, and supervising student teaching assistants.
Minimum Qualifications: Qualified applicants must have a graduate degree in engineering or related field and a minimum of three years teaching experience. The ideal candidate would possess seven or more years teaching experience, including instruction in laboratory or project-based courses, programming experience, and an enthusiasm for experiential learning. Excellent management, education, organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
