Opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Imaging and Machine Learning of Cardiovascular Disease
The Center for Computational Imaging and Personalized Diagnostics (CCIPD) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and the Heart and Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic (CCF) are seeking a post-doctoral fellow with interest and expertise in computational imaging, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in precision medicine for cardiovascular disease.
CCIPD houses three full time faculty members developing new technology in the fields of digital pathology, radiomics, radiogenomics, and image guided interventions. In the past seven years, the center has rapidly grown, now boasting over 60 members including faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral researchers. In the past year, the members have received awards amounting to over $30M in federal, state and industry funding. Center members published over 30 peer-reviewed papers and had 10 patents issued in 2018 alone.
The CCIPD offers an intellectually stimulating environment for students and postdocs to develop and apply image-computing solutions to highly translational and clinically relevant problems. Students and postdocs work closely with the clinical collaborators, including radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, and medical, and radiation oncologists. The CWRU campus is located in the heart of Cleveland, and is within a 10 minute walk or drive of 4 nationally and internationally renowned medical centers: University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center and Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. CCIPD researchers also work closely with a number of diagnostic and medical imaging companies on industry sponsored research projects.
The Center is also heavily involved in translational activities with a number of grants and joint projects with industry partners in medical imaging and cancer diagnostics. A number of CCIPD researchers also work closely with a number of diagnostic and medical imaging companies on industry sponsored research projects. Additionally, the Center has spawned two startups.
The Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute is one of the largest cardiovascular practice in the U.S. For the 25th consecutive year, Cleveland Clinic’s heart program has ranked as the best in the nation, earning the No. 1 ranking in U.S. News & World Report’s “2019-20 Best Hospitals.” Since 1995, no hospital in the country has ranked higher than Cleveland Clinic in cardiac care.
The post-doctoral fellow will be working on development of image analytic/machine learning algorithms for clinical applications in cardiovascular diseases. The candidate will benefit from the outstanding technical expertise of the Madabhushi group at CWRU and world-class expertise of Dr. Milind Desai’s cardiovascular imaging expertise. The candidate will benefit from joint mentoring of Dr. Madabhushi and Desai.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research. A successful candidate would have a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and a demonstrable record of accomplishment in medical image analysis, neuroimaging, computer vision, and image registration and feature extraction. Experience in MATLAB and C++ programming is required.
The Case Western Reserve University campus is approximately 5 miles (8 km) east of Downtown Cleveland in the neighborhood known as University Circle, an area encompassing 550 acres containing what has been called the greatest concentration of educational, medical, and cultural institutions within one square mile of the United States. Case Western Reserve has a number of programs taught in conjunction with University Circle institutions, including the Cleveland Clinic, the University Hospitals of Cleveland, the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Cleveland Institute of Music, the Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Cleveland Play House. Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra, resides on Case Western Reserve campus.
