JOB SUMMARY
The laboratory of Dr. Christopher Hubert in the Department of Biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has postdoctoral positions available to study brain tumor biology, cellular heterogeneity, and mechanisms of therapeutic resistance. The Hubert lab utilizes patient-derived 3D tumor cultures and cutting-edge molecular, cellular, tissue engineering, and imaging methods to study the unique biology and therapeutic sensitivities of tumor cells in different tumor microenvironments. We are looking for curious and dedicated researchers to join our highly collaborative and supportive team. In addition to carrying out research, support will be available for career development, presenting research findings at national and international conferences, student mentorship, and scientific outreach.
I. SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will use a combination of tissue culture, molecular biology, high-throughput sequencing, mouse modeling, and imaging approaches to investigate the diverse biology of glioblastoma and tumor stem cells, as well as their response to potential therapies.
This candidate will independently plan and conduct experiments to accomplish research objectives and will have an opportunity to develop new and independent research projects that leverage the lab’s expertise in brain tumor biology, cell and tissue engineering, and therapeutic targeting.
The successful candidate will keep organized scientific records, and conduct themselves with high scientific integrity, respect for others, and a willingness to learn. They will present data at lab meetings, lab journal clubs, departmental seminars and scientific meetings. They will also prepare manuscripts and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals.
II. TECHNICAL SKILLS
Required skills: In-depth experience with standard molecular biology techniques as well as cell and tissue culture-based assays.
Preferred skills: Experience with 3-dimensional or organoid tissue culture, mouse tumor models, next generation sequencing (NGS) data analyses, cancer immunotherapy, and viral production and transduction of cancer cells.
III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise laboratory technicians/assistants and graduate student trainees in experimental design and data analysis of a variety of projects.
IV. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should have: (1) a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, cell biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field; (2) a strong background in molecular biology, tissue culture, and/or cancer biology; (3) published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
The successful candidate must have strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
Interested candidates should send a current CV, a 1-page cover letter describing current and future research interests, and names and contact information for 3 references to: Dr. Christopher Hubert, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Christopher.Hubert@case.edu
