Title:                           Research Assistant 3

 

Duties:                        The Research Assistant 3 at Case Western Reserve University (“CWRU”) in Cleveland, Ohio works closely with the Principal Investigator (“PI”) to plan and carry out studies focused on research projects with the goal of understanding the mechanisms of cellular response to stress. He or she maintains critical cell lines and works in animal models (mice). Specifically, the Research Assistant 3 performs complex experiments of a non-routine nature in both cell lines and mouse models in collaboration with the PI, Senior Research Associates, Research Associates, Postdocs, and graduate students. Those in this position maintain and analyze databases, results of the cell lines, and mouse model experiments. The Research Assistant 3 performs techniques to isolate islet from mice, develops new protocols and techniques for research projects involving a high degree of skill and training, and evaluates the adequacy of techniques while studying and testing new procedures. Further responsibilities include: maintaining rodent colonies and performing complex experiments on melanoma mouse models; performing cell and molecular biology techniques including cell culture of immortalized cells, preparation of normal cells from animal tissues, extraction of DNA and RNA: PCR, RT-PCR, western blotting, and survival in vitro assays; reviewing all data and co-author research manuscripts; maintaining laboratory and research records; placing orders for laboratory inventories and monitoring laboratory budget; and training lab personnel and students as required.

 

Requirements:           Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Biology, Immunology or related field or foreign equivalent as determined by a credentials evaluation and 3 years of experience in basic cell and molecular biology techniques in a research environment. Experience to include performing cell culture of immortalized cancer and normal cells, preparation of normal cells from animal tissues, DNA and RNA extraction, clonogenic assay and survival in vitro assays, western blotting, handling of animals in a research setting, and isolation of islets from mice.

 

Salary:            Commensurate with qualifications and experience ($39,779.00)
