Research Assistant Professor Position in Lithium Battery


The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to invite applications for a non-tenure-track research faculty position in the area of Lithium Battery, with an anticipated starting date of May 1, 2021 or thereafter.  The position will be at Assistant Professor level, although appointment to a senior level may be considered for candidate with an excellent track record in research and scholarship, recognition from the research community, and the promise of continued distinction.


Founded in 1826, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio. With an exceptional record of research achievements, CWRU is associated with 17 Nobel laureates, including the very first Nobel prize winner of the United States in 1907 on the famous Michelson-Morley interferometer experiment for measurement of the speed of light. The Case School of Engineering actively promotes interdisciplinary research collaboration through university-level institutes primarily focused on materials, energy and health care. For energy storage research, CWRU has established such relevant institutes and centers as Great Lakes Energy Institute, Yeager Center for Electrochemical Sciences, Swagelok Center for Surface Analysis of Materials, Microfabrication Laboratory, and Electronics Design Center with class 100 and 1000 clean room fabrication facilities, and have developed wide collaborations with industry, national labs, and many national and international research institutions. The MAE department has a renowned history of scholarly activities that have pushed the frontiers of energy science and engineering toward real industrial applications with recent focus on automotive, robotic and aerospace industries. 


We seek an outstanding scholar who demonstrates excellent track record of research on experimental studies of lithium batteries across battery material synthesis, cell fabrication, and electrochemical testing. A doctorate in engineering, material sciences, chemistry, or a closely related field is required. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to the research program of the Laboratory for Sustainable Energy Manufacturing under the supervision of Chris Yuan, the Leonard Case Jr. Endowed Professor of Engineering, and to engage in such regular research activities as design and conducting experiments, advising students, writing papers and proposals, etc.
