Research Associate - Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research & Education
The Research Associate will perform research work in social/behavioral sciences on various funded projects at the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research & Education. Initially, the person who fills this position will be involved in almost all aspects of mixed-method, applied research related to the sexual assault kit initiatives in Cuyahoga County and/or Akron. These evaluations involve quantitative and qualitative research, including coding, managing, and analyzing a large database of sexual assaults in addition to coordinating, conducting, and analyzing interviews, focus groups, and surveys. A second core area of the work will be meeting with government, law enforcement, and non-profit agencies as part of the research.
The ideal candidate can support all phases of research, have experience with managing funded research projects, and have experience with both quantitative and qualitative research. Functions include project management, data management and analysis; building and maintaining relational databases, running queries, creating new and populating existing tables; meeting regularly with nonprofit, law enforcement , and other government agencies to provide information and technical assistance; creating, selecting and administering evaluation instruments; analyzing data using SPSS or other related statistical packages; assisting with comprehensive program evaluation, report and/or manuscript preparation, conducting literature reviews, developing infographics; and coordinating interviews. May supervise staff and students.
Qualifications: Masters Degree or higher in the social sciences or relevant field is required. Minimum three years' experience working in funded research, with non-profit and government or county agencies, or conducting/participating in program evaluations. PhD preferred. Must be highly organized with strong methodological skills, especially qualitative; proficient with SPSS or related statistical packages; able to develop and execute project management, data management, analysis and process and outcome program evaluations and/or funded public health, criminal justice, or social or behavior science research. Experience in Microsoft Suite (Word, Access, Excel), email and internet applications required. Experience with applications or analytic supports such as Mapping/GIS, Qualtrics/Survey Monkey, and SPSS Syntax a definite plus. Able to work collaboratively in a small team environment. Able to work with general supervision while being highly self-motivated and self-directed. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. A record of scholarly dissemination and experience responding to RFPs and obtaining external grant funding a definite plus.
General office working conditions. May be required to occasionally attend an evening or weekend meeting.
