Research Associate, Biomedical Engineering

Research Associate – School of Medicine Biomedical Engineering:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Case Western Research University School of Medicine is seeking a Research Associate to develop biology-inspited nanoparticles (derived from harmless plant viruses as bio-nano platform technology) as novel platforms for in vivo imaging and drug delivery applications targeting cancer.  The research program and laboratory is highly interdisciplinary bridging biomaterials, viral nanoparticle production in planta, bioconjugation chemistry, genetic and chemical engineering of viruses, surface chemistry, microscopy including confocal microscopy, SEM, and TEM, as well as in vitro and in vivo testing in tissue culture and mouse models. We seek highly motivated, creative scientists, who enjoy an interdisciplinary, open, and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Planning and executing scientific projects

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize nanoparticle probes.  The formulations will be evaluated in cell culture studies and in vivo animal studies.

  • Prepare manuscripts and contribute preliminary data, background and significance and experimental design for grant proposals.

  • Present and discuss scientific findings in scientific meetings.

  • Collaborate within the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Imaging Center, and its clinical affiliates.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in chemistry, bioconjugation chemistry, molecular biology, nanotechnology, biomaterials, virology, in vitro and in vivo biology. A PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Molecular Biology is required.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, brief statement of research interests, and three letters of reference to
