The Senior Research Associate will be responsible for conceiving, planning, organizing, and conducting research projects related to HIV. The SRA will conduct literature reviews and interact with other scientific staff members and faculty.  They will be responsible for the overall design of experiments, generation and the analysis of data, including use of specialized software and will be required to write manuscripts, papers and grant applications.



  1. Design and perform experiments in HIV research. Keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator
  2. Lead writing of publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  3. Generate independent funding. Prepare grant proposals.
  4. Develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols
  5. Manage project timelines and the monitoring of the project budgets
  6. Analyze, interpret, summarize and compile data
  7. Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures.
  8. Operate and maintain equipment and instruments.
  9. Attend seminars and training sessions on various topics



Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Ph.D. degree in biology or chemistry and 5 years of laboratory research experience.



  1. Demonstrate expertise in Immunology
  2. Ability to operate laboratory equipment. 
  3. Willingness to follow protocols and provide suggestions to the PI. 
  4. Professional and effective oral and written communication skills; and good interpersonal skills with the ability to work and communicate with various individuals within and external to the University.  Must be able to clearly relay information to the PI and other researchers and prepare written documents for grant submissions, manuscripts, publications, etc. as needed.
  5. Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.  Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and follow-through.  
  6. Effective management skills; ability to lead, train, work with, and elicit cooperation from team members and staff.

  10. Good computer skills; must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management.



General laboratory environment, including work with exposure to hazardous chemicals, potential bloodborne pathogens, and radioactive materials. Will be required to work nights and weekends if necessary to complete process runs or if there is equipment malfunction.  Will need to complete all necessary DOES safety traning(s).  Occasional heavy lifting required up 25 to 49lbs.  This position will deal with job hazards such as being around moving machinery, blood borne pathogens, chemicals, fumes, dust, infectious agents, and being present in restricted areas.
