Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Dean for Medical Education. The Vice Dean for Medical Education reports to the Dean and Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and serves as the primary leader for all medical educational activities at the CWRU School of Medicine. Educational programs under this important position include the University MD program, the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM) program, the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), the Physician Assistant program (PA), the Master of Science in Anesthesia program, and the joint degree programs in medicine. The Vice Dean also has oversight responsibility for CWRU-sponsored graduate medical education intern and residency programs offered in concert with University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, MetroHealth System, and the Louis Stokes Veterans Administration Medical Center, and collaborates with such programs at the Cleveland Clinic. The Vice Dean carries responsibility on behalf of the SOM for all inter-professional educational activities with other health science schools and programs within CWRU. The Vice Dean is also the Director of the Center for Medical Education, an academic unit with the power of faculty appointment within the Division of General Medical Sciences. This Center has been the site of development of new health education programs.
The incumbent will continue the trajectory and further the culture of innovation in curriculum including the establishment of pathways in medical education, a novel anatomy curriculum using Hololens technology, establishment of longitudinal clerkships, advances in integration of basic, clinical and health systems science and development of grant-supported inter-professional curricula. The Vice Dean for Medical Education will have an exciting opportunity to grow and enhance inter-professional education using innovative curriculum design afforded by our move to a new Health Education Campus, shared with the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and the School of Dental Medicine. This elegant, technology-enhanced building of nearly 500,000 sq ft has opportunity for excellent formal and informal interactions with a beautiful courtyard, new custom simulation space, new technology enhanced classrooms, and technology to support a novel anatomy curriculum.
Experience: Significant leadership experience in medical education. Previous experience with staff and team development required. Applicants should qualify for academic appointment in the CWRU School of Medicine, preferably at the level of professor, which requires a significant professional reputation for contributions in teaching or research. A record of scholarship in medical education is highly preferred.
Education/Licensing: A doctorate in medicine, education or a related field is required. Doctorate in medicine is preferred.
