Tapping into the wisdom of the world’s literary elite: Priceless

Each year, The William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series gives our students the chance to hear from decorated thought-leaders, novelists, journalists and more.

Among those our students will meet in 2019:

  • Piper Kerman, whose memoir, "Orange Is the New Black," became an Emmy Award-winning Netflix series
  • Julia Alvarez, regarded as one of the most critically and commercially successful Latina writers of her time
  • Pulitzer Prize- and Walter Cronkite Award-winning columnist Dave Barry
  • Investigative journalist Jane Mayer, who covers politics, culture, national security and the #MeToo movement for The New Yorker

See the full lineup here. Of course, these acclaimed visitors are a big draw for CWRU students. But their presence merely complements the university’s cadre of supportive and expert faculty who have written best-selling novels; won Pulitzer Prizes and MacArthur Genius awards; and been appointed Guggenheim fellowships, National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships… you get the point.
