The Cleveland Health Sciences Library was formed in 1966 by an agreement between the Cleveland Medical Library Association (CMLA) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). CHSL operates in two locations: The Allen Memorial Medical Library, which has a collection of clinical books and journals and is home to the Dittrick Medical History Center and Museum, and its collection of rare books, archives, and artifacts. The Health Center Library, has a collection of basic sciences, nursing, dentistry, and biology books, journals, audiovisuals, and microforms. The combined collections total over 475,000 volumes including electronics and collectibles and over 2500 journal subscriptions both print and electronic. Both libraries are open to the public for in-house use of most materials. Personal and institutional members of the CMLA, and faculty, students and staff of CWRU have borrowing privileges. The Cleveland Health Sciences Library serves as a resource library in the Greater Midwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. CHSL also participates in OhioLINK, OHIONET, and OCLC.
