Science Café Cleveland presents:
How Cyber Criminals Are Obtaining and Exploiting Our Data—And What We Can Do About It
December 10, 2018
FEATURING:
G. Ryan MacFarlane
FBI Supervisory Special Agent, Cleveland Division
EVENT INFORMATION:
As more and more of the transactions of our lives, both personal and professional, migrate to the online world, our data become exposed to third-parties and move further out of our direct control. As a result, cyber criminals are obtaining, re-selling, and exploiting our data for profit or other motivations. This discussion will focus on how we have effectively lost direct control of our data, and what we can do about it as individuals, as a community, and as a country. The talk will use FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3.gov) data and FBI case examples to highlight trends and illuminate the criminal economy that has evolved to traffic our personal and
corporate information.
