Jenifer Wolkowski is a doctoral student at Case Western Reserve University's Department of English. There she teaches Freshman Composition with a passion that verges dangerously close to hysteria, and is in the final year of her coursework. She is focused with terrier-like grip on modernism and dead white guys like Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Faulkner. Her dissertation will probably have something to do with Raymond Chandler, because if she had her druthers, she would do nothing all day but read pulp and dream of marrying Philip Marlowe, whom she considers to be just about as close to perfect as a fictional character can get. She hates speaking of herself in the third person.

She got her B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she entered as pre-med, then had some sort of epiphany and changed over to English. She's not sure if her mother ever really forgave her for that one, but at least she has a minor in zoology to show for it and will recite the cranial nerves in order if asked nicely. She blames organic chemistry for her failed medical career.

She got her M.A. from New York University and has yet to have another martini as good as the ones she drank there. It was there that she acquired an evil streak, which she will hopefully wield with dignity and discretion when she becomes queen of the homeless, graced with a crown of chicken bones and a sceptre of tin foil.

Kevin LaCamera taught her everything she knows about building a website, and for that she is grateful. He had the bad luck of having to build "Modernism: The American Salons" with her, but he persevered and only had to hit her a couple of times. Thankfully they were not playing "Two For Flinching." His award-winning site for CWRU's Society for Critical Exchange is a thing of beauty, and we all know that's a joy forever.
If you like the Modernism site or the Mina Loy page, she thanks you, and invites you to e-mail her.
