Cross-Disciplinary Team Led by Sharifi Secures $1 Million Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) VAlor Challenge Award

A team of investigators led by Nima Sharifi, MD, GU Malignancies Program Leader, Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Kendrick Family Chair for Prostate Cancer Research at Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute, have been awarded the 2018 Mizel Family Foundation PCF VAlor Challenge Award for their project "Therapeutic reversal of a metabolic mechanism that drives prostate cancer resistance to AR antagonists." This is the second time in four years that Dr. Sharifi has received the highly competitive grant. The group is developing novel treatments to target androgen & glucocorticoid receptors to prevent castration-resistant prostate cancer. Also from the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center were Cleveland Clinic co-investigators Eric Klein, MD and Jorge Garcia, MD. The team also includes additional researchers from Cleveland Clinic and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
