Updated Response in Light of COVID-19 Pandemic (updated 10/20/20)

The Imaging Research SR continues to increase its operations capabilities and will continue to provide support for regional investigators, while also maintaining prudent social distancing practices. Details for specific imaging capabilities are below. We request your patience and flexibility in scheduling challenges needed to support safe distancing practices of our Imaging SR staff and customers.

Preclinical Imaging

The preclinical imaging suite has resumed full operations. Full-service scans can be scheduled by contacting Core staff as normal. Note: preclinical research subjects are now housed within the Imaging Research SR for ease of access for all investigators. Self-service scans can be scheduled as normal via iLab. Training can be scheduled by contacting Imaging SR staff and leadership via emails listed below.

Preclinical Imaging on Clinical Imaging Systems

With the new Vida 3T MRI scanner, all imaging studies requiring use of human MRI are able to resume. Please contact core staff for details.

Human Subjects Research Imaging

Human subjects imaging research services have largely resumed with prudent operational policies.   Please contact the Imaging SR director or staff as needed to schedule services.

General Information

The Imaging SR Director (Chris Flask, caf@case.edu) and staff (Michael Kavran, mdk60@case.edu) are available by email to answer questions or to set up virtual meetings to discuss your research project needs or to schedule training.

New operational guidelines including use of PPE

  • Access to Imaging Research SR requires ALL personnel to undergo a temperature and verbal health screening at one of the UHCMC stations (e.g., Bolwell, Rainbow, Lerner Tower). This screening must be completed before coming to the imaging facility.
  • Masks (cloth or surgical) are required to be used at all times within the UHCMC facility including the preclinical imaging lab. These masks will not be supplied by the Imaging SR and therefore must be provided by individual investigators and their respective labs.
  • Gloves are required to be used at all times within the imaging facility. These gloves are available from the Imaging Research SR.

Imaging Research

Facility Overview

The Imaging Research Shared Resource (SR) provides a wide range of basic science and clinical imaging services for researchers at Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center and the Veteran's Administration Hospital. These facilities are also available to regional/collaborative corporations such as Bioenterprise and other academic institutions. More information is available on the Case Center for Imaging Research website.

Services and Fees

The Imaging Research SR offers a multi-tiered rate structure. The full rate is applied when SR staff conduct the imaging scan and provide the data to the researcher. Discounts are available to individuals who have completed a SR-approved training program for use of specific equipment (50% weekday 9am-5pm).

Contact SR Director Chris Flask (caf@case.edu) for a free consultation on how to best utilize the imaging facilities or Michael Kavran (michael.kavran@case.edu) for scheduling and/or training.
