Martina L. Veigl, PhD, is the founder of the Gene Expression & Genotyping Core Facility at Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and has been its director since 1999. She joined the staff of Case Western Reserve University in 1986 as an assistant professor of medicine with joint appointments in biochemistry, general medical sciences (oncology) and environmental health sciences. She became an associate professor of medicine in 1995 and later an associate professor of environmental health sciences in 1996. Dr. Veigl has been a member of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1987.

Dr. Veigl earned her bachelor's of science in chemistry from Bellarmine College in Louisville, KY in 1973. She earned her PhD in biochemistry from Emory University in 1977 and a post-doctorate degree in biochemistry and microbiology from Duke University in 1981. She has also been active with the Environmental Mutagen Society since 1993, eventually joining the membership committee in 1996 and was a member of the Executive Board between 2004 and 2010.

Research Interests

Dr. Veigl’s research focus is on DNA mismatch repair, specifically related to colon cancer, and epigenetics. She has been a promoter and implementer of high throughput genomic technologies at CWRU and nationally since 2000. As a part of her research, she founded the GEGF, which connects Case community researchers with the implementation of high-throughput genetic technologies.

Dr. Veigl’s inquiries provide laboratory support for studies employing gene expression, genotyping, and mutation analysis. Her research supplies strategies and laboratory support for focused and general library preparation for next generation sequencing technologies. This includes provision of strategies and laboratory support for focused and general library preparation for next generation sequencing technologies.
