Youth Engaged in Cancer Research Application

The Youth Engaged in Cancer Research Program provides high school students from Cleveland area high schools with a unique opportunity to engage in medical research projects under the direction of Cancer Center faculty.

Students are selected for participation in this exciting program based on their interest in science, their scholastic achievement, and letters of recommendation submitted by their high school science teachers and school counselors.

Program Components

Students will be placed in research labs where they will work with outstanding faculty investigators at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. They are expected to participate in a research project on a full-time basis for an eight week period. Stipends will be provided. 

Program Eligibility

To be eligible for this program, applicants must:

  • Attend a Cleveland-area high school
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Be at least 14 years old by the time they begin research activities
  • All participants will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including a booster if eligible

Application Information

Applications are now being accepted. In addition to the completed application, new students are required to submit transcripts and letters of recommendation from a high school science teacher and a school counselor. All students are required to submit a completed parental consent form. Supporting documentation should be emailed to J.T. Render at jxr488@case.edu. The deadline to submit all application materials is 11:59 PM on February 24, 2023.
