What Are Commencement Marshals?
Faculty members are invited to serve as marshals for their school on commencement day. Marshals perform a critical role assisting with student line-up and leading the academic procession at the university-wide convocation and at the school diploma ceremonies. To learn more about serving as marshal, contact your school's commencement coordinator.
All faculty participating in commencement activities must wear appropriate academic regalia. In addition, marshals wear a special sash denoting their rank and participation in the ceremony. The marshal sash should be worn underneath your hood, from left shoulder to right hip, across your body.
A marshals meeting will take place on Friday, May 4, 2018 in Adelbert Hall. In addition, marshals must attend a walk-through with University Marshal Robin Dubin on Friday, May 18, 2018 to learn the procession route.
